This is just a selection of the main activities available in the valley.
Summer Activities
Once you are out here (or before you arrive) we can help you organise any activities you may wish to do.
The activities here in the summer are numerous. Whether you are interested in sedate walks, glacial hiking, white water rafting, pony trekking, via ferrata (climbing), mountain biking, skiing or just plain sightseeing we have it all here in the Alps.
Sightseeing
Located on the border with Italy, La Rosiere is ideally situated for day trips into Italy over the stunning Col de Petit St Bernard. The Col itself is steeped in history and is where Hannibal crossed the Alps with his elephants. You can then move into the stunning Val d'Aoste either heading towards the ancient Roman city of Aoste or towards Courmeyer and Chamonix.
White Water
The river Isere flows through the Tarentaise valley to Bourg St Maurice and onwards so providing us with plenty of white water to play on. There are several companies based in Bourg all offering different white water experiences. If you want to try rafting for the first time then the Isere is perfect for you, but if you fancy something a little more extreme that is available as well on the Doron de Bozel. If you want to get a bit closer to the water you can try "Nage en Eau Vive" in which you float in the river holding onto a float (with an instructor).
Via Ferrata
If you've never heard of Via Ferrata then read on. It is rock climbing but with a difference. The route is marked for you with a metal cable which you attach yourself onto. At difficult bits of the route there are then extra foot irons or wire bridges!! to aid you. It gives you a completely different view of the mountains and is the most amazing experience if you can cope with heights. You need to wear sturdy shoes and do need some specialist equipment which can be hired down in Bourg St Maurice for approx 7€ for half a day.
Skiing
The glacier in Tignes is open all year for skiing and snowboarding. We are only a 30 minute drive away so a mornings skiing in the middle of the summer is easily accessible. If you don't fancy skiing you can get a pedestrian pass and go up on the glacier to have a look at the views and have a cup of coffee.
Walking
There are so many walking opportunities in the Alps in the summer I don't even know where to start. If you fancy some nice gentle walks taking in the local villages and scenery then you can do that. If you want to do some more serious day hikes taking in a few peaks then that can be arranged as well or, if serious hardcore glacial hiking staying in a refuge hut for the night is your thing then this is the place for you. There are several local guides who organise all of the types of walks mentioned above. For some of the more serious hiking we recommend you go with someone who knows the area.
Mountain Biking
One of the most popular sports in the valley is mountain biking. There are numerous routes available in all the resorts, from the hard riding down hill runs to the more meandering valley floors. All this is aided by the use of the lift systems to get you to the top. You can hire mountain bikes in resort and organise a guide for the day.
Golf
There are several golf courses within an easy drive. We even have our own 9 hole high altitude course here in La Rosiere. A half days golf can easily be combined with other activities or sight seeing to make the perfect day out.
